Register NowBACKGROUND OF THE PRIVATE EDUCATION DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (PEDAN)
The Private Education Developers Association of Nigeria (PEDAN) was officially inaugurated on November 6, 2018, and since then, it has grown into a formidable platform driving change, innovation, and excellence within Nigeria’s private education sector. Now six years strong, PEDAN continues to wax stronger by the day, fulfilling its vision and deepening its impact across the country.
PEDAN was founded as a unifying body for private school owners, a space to foster positive interaction, collaboration, and sustainable development. Born out of a desire to strengthen private education through collective engagement, shared values, and mutual support. The association is guided by a strong constitution and a leadership structure rooted in transparency, teamwork, and accountability.
PEDAN VISION AND PURPOSE
- To serve as a platform for private school owners to connect, interact, and grow together.
- To provide a forum for intellectual exchange and partnerships that encourage sustainable educational development.
- To partner with government institutions and other stakeholders for the advancement of basic education in Nigeria.
- To function as a self-regulatory body, upholding best practices, ethical standards, and operational discipline among member schools.
- To offer a platform for healthy competition, encouraging excellence, innovation, and unity among school owners.
- To stand as an umbrella body for collective bargaining, protecting and promoting the interests of members.
- To ensure access to financial resources for school expansion and growth through strategic collaborations and internal cooperative schemes.
- To devise creative and practical solutions for challenges facing private education providers, creating an enabling environment for school operations.
- To deliver consistent training and retraining for school staff and administrators to improve capacity, competence, and leadership.

LOOKING AHEAD
As PEDAN looks to the future, its focus remains on building capacity, empowering members, influencing policy, and elevating standards across private education. The association is not just a collective—it is a movement of visionaries, committed to building a more equitable, innovative, and sustainable education system in Nigeria.

REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
Over the last six years, PEDAN has recorded outstanding achievements:
- Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), gaining legal recognition.
- Developed and ratified the PEDAN Constitution to guide its operations.
- Opened and maintained two operational bank accounts with First Bank Plc and Bowen Microfinance Bank.
- Achieved official recognition from the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Education.
- Expanded from 16 to 24 chapters in Lagos and Ogun state, with more chapters being established.
- Facilitated various trainings, workshops, and seminars for school owners, teachers, and education managers.
- Partnered with the Lagos State Government, Bowen MFB, and Edu Finance Consult to offer training in safeguarding, child protection, and school management.
- Established a multi-purpose cooperative society, giving members access to soft loans without collateral.
- Assisted schools with exam preparation, placement processes, and regulatory approvals, including presenting candidates for the BECE and Lagos State Placement Exams.
- Provided welfare and legal support for members in times of need, bereavement, or natural disasters.
- Received multiple commendations and awards, including the prestigious “Man of the Year in Education 2019” and Best Supporting Group in the Education Sector by Bowen MFB.
- We have been assisting members to acquire land on PEDAN Estates where we have negotiated for over 10 acres of land near Crawford University in Agbara-Lusada, been the first phase of the project. We are already looking at other parts of Lagos such as ikorodu and Epe for the 2nd and 3rd phase of the project. a significant investment toward PEDAN’s long-term legacy and future development.
